GOLF RESORTS IN MAURITIUS

Golf Holidays To Mauritius

Mauritius is situated on the western side of the Indian Ocean, much further south than the Seychelles, it benefits from the fact that it is east of Madagascar and is therefore more protected than the Seychelles on its western side. The island lies east of Madagascar and on a latitude with Mozambique in East Africa.

The island is a melting pot of cultures, which benefits from a lot of influence from the British, the Dutch, the French, the Chinese and India. Most people speak French, Creole and English!

The island is big enough to be very interesting, it is mountainous in the middle of the island, where there are bigger towns such as Curepipe, although the capital is at Port Louis, located in the north west. Our featured resort venues are scattered around the island, with some venues in the unspoiled and secluded district of Bel Ombre in the south-west, whilst others are on the mid-east coast, which is also a lovely piece of coastline, with massive beaches and stunning lagoons.

There are several wonderful national parks to explore in Mauritius with wildlife, such as giant tortoises, crocodiles and fascinating species of flowers, fauna and look out for the botanical gardens in the north. The region of Grande Baie on the north coast, now has its first golf course at Mont Choisy, so offers return guests a new place to visit.

The golf in Mauritius is the best of any long-haul venue on an island, there are nine splendid golf courses, if one includes the latest addition, but there are a further 2-3 golf courses planned to open in the next 2-3 years at Heritage and close to Belle Mare.

Two airlines fly direct to Mauritius, notably Air Mauritius from London Heathrow and British Airways, ex Gatwick. The flight time is about 13 hours.

It is notable that Air Mauritius still offer free golf club carriage, even in economy class. If you are looking for a high quality airline, particularly in Business Class we would highly recommend flying with Emirates Airlines from Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Gatwick or Edinburgh. Emirates are hard to rival, even in economy class!

Emirates flights would stop over in Dubai and split your journey into two equal sectors in time, about 6.5 hours each and from Dubai you can enjoy their latest aircraft, which are amazing. Air Mauritius offer just two classes, Economy and Business, whilst BA offer three classes, which includes Premium Economy.

Thomson offer their Dreamliner service at certain times of the year also.

The weather in Mauritius ranges from 20 degrees – 35 degrees. The low season from May to September is a great period for keen golf players. April, May, June September and October are particularly good golfing months!

The high season, when the temperatures are at their hottest, is essentially from November to March when prices are more expensive. Mauritius is a tropical island, with very different climates in different regions, the interior mountainous part of the island gets a lot of rain, the flatter coastal areas all see much better weather patterns, year-round, even in the low season months it can be perfect weather.

The only month we would probably recommend avoiding is July. It is worth noting that in the hottest months from November to March, we would recommend the east coast, as it never is quite as hot as the west coast and the climate is more manageable. On the other hand in the lower season cooler months, the weather is always a tad better on the east coast. Overall, the best weather in Mauritius can be found in Grande Baie in the north west and at Le Paradis in Le Morne in the south west tip, next to the unique lagoon.

The currency of Mauritius is the Mauritian Rupee.
